It hung there for weeks, barely attached.

Finally, it came on its own (or he just yanked it -- it's not clear what went down) late at night on a Saturday night while most of us were asleep.
After a brief panic about the state of the Tooth Fairy's cash flow, and some frantic searching through hidden pockets and couch cushions, the Fairy came up with a crisp five dollar bill to ransom the tooth from its envelope under Gavin's pillow.
Not a bad price for a first lost tooth!
