Summer has finally hit our little corner of Vermont! I thought it would never come, but here we are. The flower beds are weeded and mulched, the raspberry and blackberry patches tamed, and the garden is in. (I also managed to get an article written during a very busy May!) The kids have two and a half more days of school before it becomes summer officially.
Three horses just arrived for the summer. They are all new to us. Dusty and Thunder are Arabian horses and A.C. is a Thoroughbred, a rescued racehorse who is half brother to two Kentucky Derby winners. His sire was Dynaforce, whose most famous offspring was Barbaro. I was a bit nervous about the idea of putting my kids on a racehorse but A.C. has the loveliest temperament and I'm told he is perfectly happy to walk. I'm going to have Austin try him first! But I think we need to fatten all three of these guys up before we put saddles on them. A few days out in that lush field should do the trick.
Indiana is 13 weeks old now. She has been with us for more than a month. She loves playing fetch, going on long walks, meeting new people, and being wherever Lucy is. Training and housebreaking are going pretty well, she still chews on everything (including Gavin, who she seems to regard as a littermate). We are working on that, along with her poop-eating habit, made more complicated by the addition of three horses who leave piles of delicacies all over the field for Indiana to find. We'll get through this puppy phase, I hope!
We decided it can't be summer without a trampoline. The old one lost an argument with an apple tree during a windstorm last fall, so we got a new one. I now have two exhausted kids and one exhausted puppy. Totally worth it.
