Glacier is one of those places that isn't on the way to anywhere. It's WAAAAY up in northwestern Montana, straddling the Canadian border. But when we realized that it was only an hour from Flathead Lake, we decided to make a daytrip. It was SO worth it.
We decided to drive something called "The Road to the Sun" which looked pretty do-able on the park map. We couldn't figure out why it had that name until we started climbing in elevation and realized that if we kept going we might actually reach the sun. The road was narrow and our vehicle (Dad's Suburban) was huge. I kept staring straight ahead to avoid thinking about how close we were to the edge of the road, and hence the edge of the cliff. Luckily, looking straight ahead the views were breathtaking so there was plenty to distract me.
